The international film marathon “Empowered UA” is initiated by the Watch Ukrainian! Association, with support from the MHP‑Hromadi Charitable Foundation and assistance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. The organiser in the United Kingdom is KRYLA Culture – Community & Art Organisation, and the local organiser in Milton Keynes is the Ukraine Appeal charity (1199404).
About movie
Dovbush (2023) is a Ukrainian historical adventure drama set in the 18th‑century Carpathians. The film follows two outlaw brothers whose paths diverge as one seeks justice for oppressed villagers while the other pursues personal gain. Their conflict unfolds against the backdrop of uprisings against foreign rule, with sweeping mountain landscapes, detailed period costumes and dynamic battle scenes adding to the epic atmosphere.
At its heart, the film portrays Dovbush as an archetype of the Ukrainian spirit: a person of dignity who longs for a peaceful, free life on his own land. He is not naturally warlike, yet when enemies threaten his people’s freedom, he is ready to sacrifice everything — even his own safety — to defend the honour of his community and the love he holds dear.
