CEO of Ukraine Appeal Participates in National Online Seminar on Holodomor Awareness
The CEO of Ukraine Appeal charity, Viktoriya Shtanko, took part in an important online seminar dedicated to launching a nationwide information campaign in the United Kingdom to recognise the Holodomor of 1932–1933 as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people and to honour the millions of innocent victims of Soviet‑engineered famines.
The seminar was organised as part of the Forum of Leaders of Ukrainian Organisations in the UK, bringing together community representatives, historians, clergy and civic leaders who continue to preserve historical truth and advocate for international recognition of the Holodomor.
Viktoriya expressed her gratitude to Inna Yegorova, Secretary of the Embassy of Ukraine in London, for initiating this timely and meaningful discussion, as well as to all organisers and speakers for their valuable contributions. The panel included:
Inna Ehorova, Embassy of Ukraine in the UK
Petro Rewko, Chair of the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain
Fedir Kurlyak, General Secretary of AUGB
Hanya Dezyk, Deputy Chair of AUGB
Dr. Daria Mattingly, historian and Holodomor researcher
Moderated by Ira Rapiy, Deputy Director of Support Ukraine / London Euromaidan
Leaders of the Ukrainian community and clergy also shared their experience and long‑standing work in commemorating Holodomor victims, including Iryna Terlecky and Protopresbyter Bohdan Matwijczuk.
For the fourth year in a row, Ukrainians around the world commemorate the victims of Stalin’s terror while facing a new full‑scale war. As many speakers noted, unpunished crimes and unrecognised atrocities of the past have returned in even more devastating forms. Today, it is critically important to remember, to speak the truth and to ensure that the Holodomor is recognised as the genocide it was.
Viktoriya thanked all participants for their dedication to preserving memory and for their ongoing work with international partners to achieve historical justice. The Ukrainian diaspora worldwide has played a vital role in ensuring that the Holodomor is acknowledged globally and that the stories of its victims are never forgotten.
Ukraine Appeal CIO extends sincere thanks to SupportUkraine.uk, Yuliya Shyyan, and British‑Ukrainian Aid for their support in organising this significant event.
💔 We remember.
