Our Local MP Raises the Work of Ukrainians in Milton Keynes in Parliament

This week in the House of Commons, MP for Milton Keynes Central Emily Darlington spoke about the experiences of Ukrainians living in Milton Keynes and highlighted the work of community leaders supporting them. She raised this during a discussion with Luke Pollard, the Minister of State at the Ministry of Defence, who is responsible for the UK’s support to Ukraine.

In her remarks, Emily Darlington emphasised that many Ukrainian families in the UK are facing another Christmas away from home and loved ones - the fourth Christmas since the full-scale invasion. She called for continued compassion and community support here in Milton Keynes, and she asked the Minister to join her in wishing Ukrainians across the UK a warm and peaceful Christmas.

We are deeply grateful that she recognised the work of Viktoriya Shtanko, founder and CEO of Ukraine Appeal charity and Sunflower Ukrainian School, and acknowledged the efforts of our volunteers, partners, and wider community who help Ukrainian families rebuild their lives in the UK.

Minister Luke Pollard responded by thanking communities across the country who have welcomed Ukrainians and reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to supporting Ukraine and those who have sought safety here.

This recognition in Parliament is a meaningful reminder of the strength of our community and the impact we can make when we stand together.

Thank you to everyone who supports Ukraine Appeal — your kindness, solidarity, and generosity continue to make a real difference.
