Ukrainian Kolyadky at Bletchley Park: A Song of Gratitude and Friendship
This weekend, the Ukrainian community of Milton Keynes had the honour of bringing the spirit of Christmas to one of the most historic places in Britain — Bletchley Park.
Children and adults from the Sunflower Ukrainian Supplementary School and volunteers of the Ukraine Appeal Charity performed traditional Ukrainian kolyadky — festive Christmas carols that carry messages of hope, light, and goodwill.
Our performance was more than a celebration of heritage. It was a heartfelt thank you to Bletchley Park, the Milton Keynes community, and everyone who has supported Ukrainians since the beginning of the full‑scale invasion. Through every warm gesture, every act of solidarity, and every moment of kindness, local residents have helped our families feel safe, welcomed, and seen.
Visitors at Bletchley Park had a chance to listen as the familiar winter melodies filled the air — songs that Ukrainian families have sung for generations. For many of our children, this was their first time performing kolyadky in the UK, and they did so with pride, joy, and a deep sense of connection to their roots.
We are grateful to Milton Keynes Rose for sharing this moment and to Bletchley Park for opening its doors to our community.
It was our pleasure and privilege to stand together, united by music, culture, and friendship.
