This December, the Ukrainian community of Milton Keynes, together with Ukraine Appeal, gathered for a fun and colourful celebration of Andriivski Vechornytsi — one of the most beloved youth traditions that has been part of Ukrainian culture for centuries.
Traditionally held on the eve of St Andrew’s Day, this festive evening brings together ancient customs, maiden fortune‑telling, playful bachelor jokes, singing, dancing, and the ritual biting of kalita — a round, sun‑shaped bread symbolising goodness, strength, and the continuity of life. Today, Ukrainian young people — and everyone who feels young at heart — come together in Milton Keynes to enjoy these traditions, take part in the fun, and feel the vibrant energy that Vechornytsi are known for.
