From Evidence to Accountability: Parliamentary Screening Highlights Russian War Crimes in Occupied Ukraine

On 3 November, Ukraine Appeal CEO Viktoriya Stanko attended a special screening of the investigative documentary Executioners at the Houses of Parliament in London, hosted by The Rt Hon Sir Iain Duncan Smith MP.

The event brought together parliamentarians, human rights advocates, journalists, researchers, and members of the Ukrainian community to examine evidence of serious human rights violations committed against civilians in the Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine.

Executioners, produced by Activatica Media, is based on testimonies from Ukrainian civilians who survived Russian captivity. The documentary investigates the system of repression established in occupied areas, including unlawful detention, forced labour, torture, and extrajudicial killings. The film also explores the role of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) in organising and overseeing these abuses.

Following the screening, attendees participated in a discussion on international accountability, the documentation of war crimes, and the actions that the United Kingdom and its international partners can take to support justice for Ukrainian victims.

The event provided an important opportunity to hear directly from investigators, campaigners, and experts working to expose crimes committed against Ukrainian civilians and to ensure that evidence is preserved for future accountability efforts.

Among the distinguished guests were members of the House of Lords, Members of Parliament, and prominent figures involved in human rights advocacy and support for Ukraine. The gathering demonstrated the continued commitment within the UK Parliament to supporting Ukraine and pursuing justice for victims of war crimes.

Ukraine Appeal remains committed to raising awareness of the realities faced by Ukrainians affected by war and to supporting initiatives that promote accountability, human rights, and international solidarity.
