Ukraine Appeal CIO is excited to announce that we are recruiting for a Senior Executive Lead – Programmes, Community & Compliance to lead our growing community work in Milton Keynes and surrounding areas.
This senior leadership role brings together strategic programme management, community leadership, and safe & legal oversight. As our organisation continues to expand its support for Ukrainians in the UK, we are looking for an experienced, compassionate and proactive leader who can guide our programmes, strengthen community resilience, and ensure safe, high-quality delivery across all activities.
The Senior Executive Lead will oversee staff and volunteers, lead major community events, develop new initiatives shaped by community needs, and act as the designated safeguarding and compliance lead. This is a full-time role (37 hours per week, including Saturdays), based in Milton Keynes with hybrid working and a start date of 5 September 2026.

ROLE 1: Senior Executive Lead – Programmes, Community & Compliance
Full-time | Senior Leadership Role
Organisation: Ukraine Appeal CIO
Location: Milton Keynes / Hybrid, with community-based work and travel as required
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer / Board of Trustees
Responsible for: Project staff, sessional workers and volunteers
Hours: 37 hours, across 7 days a week
Salary: competitive salary
Contract: Permanent / Fixed Term (subject to funding)
Essential requirement: Fluent in both Ukrainian and English are required for this role.
About the Role
Ukraine Appeal CIO is seeking an experienced and compassionate Senior Executive Lead – Programmes, Community & Compliance to lead our community programmes, cultural activities, and support services for Ukrainians in Milton Keynes and surrounding areas. This senior role provides strategic direction, ensures safe and legal compliance, and oversees the delivery of high-impact initiatives shaped by community needs.
You will act as the organisation’s primary community leader, manage staff and volunteers, and represent Ukraine Appeal CIO at the highest level with partners, funders and local authorities.
Key Responsibilities
A. Strategic Leadership & Programme Management
Lead planning, delivery and evaluation of all community programmes and activities.
Oversee organisational strategy, ensuring services respond to community priorities.
Manage staff and volunteers, ensuring clarity of roles, accountability and coordination.
Develop new initiatives informed by community feedback and emerging needs.
Ensure effective monitoring, reporting and impact measurement across all programme areas.
Represent the organisation in external meetings, partnerships and stakeholder forums.
B. Community Leadership & Engagement
Serve as the lead representative of the Ukrainian community in Milton Keynes.
Build strong relationships with community members, volunteers, partners and local authorities.
Lead major community events, cultural activities, outreach programmes and engagement campaigns.
Facilitate community consultations to ensure programmes are shaped by community voices.
C. Safe & Legal Lead
Act as the designated safeguarding and legal compliance lead.
Ensure all activities meet safeguarding, GDPR, health & safety and charity governance standards.
Maintain risk assessments, incident reporting and compliance documentation.
Provide guidance to staff and volunteers on safe, ethical and inclusive practice.
Role Boundaries
Leads organisational strategy and programme direction.
Delegates communications, digital content and fundraising responsibilities to the Community Engagement & Communications Manager.
Delegates administrative, operational and volunteer coordination tasks to the Programme Support & Volunteer Coordinator.
